Donington Park Race Report

Coming into Donington I was quite excited as its a track I really enjoy riding. FP1 could not have gone any better as we had a really good feeling with the bike and felt comfortable straight away. We ended the session in P4 and feeling really confident with the bike on old used tyres, so I was looking forward to FP2 to try and better our position. FP2 we came out quick straight away and in the top 5 and again the bike was feeling good and we unexpectedly ended the session P1 which we was very happy with! FP3 on the Saturday morning we tried a couple of different settings to try and fine tune the bike but this gave us a slightly ill feeling. Throughout the session we tried a couple of other things and coming to the end of session we put a new rear tyre in but unfortunately we had a big crash down Craner on our first flying lap.

As you may know a crash down Craner is never good and there was a lot of damage to the bike!! With an hour and a half till qualifying the boys in the garage did an awesome job of getting the bike rebuilt and back out just in time. We got out with eight minutes remaining and with the boys having so little time to rebuild the bike we had a few issues and we ended up qualifying down in 23rd. Race one on Saturday evening starting so far back on the grid we had a lot of work to do but managed to chip away and wrestled our way back through to finish the race 8th. Race 2 on Sunday we started p10 on the grid leaving us less work to do throughout the race. At the start of the race I was struggling with a full fuel load, as this came down I started to move forward but with rain in the air, the race was red flagged so we ended the race p10. Race 3 we started from 11th position, the weather had improved and it was going to be a dry race. Again we struggled with full fuel load and lost quite a lot of time at the start. As the race progressed I started to catch my teammate Christian and Peter Hickman who were battling for 6th position. Unfortunately, I made a mistake coming out onto the start-finish straight and this resulted in me having a massive high side. The outcome being a twisted pelvis, bruised coccyx and ruined leathers! Not the finish we was wanting as our pace over the weekend was so good, but that’s racing!
